You might hate it, but you still do it

It comes up in everyone’s life now and then – something you really HATE doing, but you still do it.

For me, it happened this morning:  keeping to my New Year’s resolution of working out at least 3 times a week.

Worked late in Wrigleyville last night, Roy was a bear this morning, and all I wanted to do was watch more of Season One of the best TV show ever made, The Wire.

BUT … I worked out, and I actually feel much better.  How does it happen that way?

I’m curious what your #1 is … the thing you hate to do the most, but you still do it because you know you should.

Let’s chat about it, today after 3pm.

Cash is King. So is Time.

  • I have $500 up for grabs tonight, and it’s simple.  Stop by The Cubby Bear (in Chicago, Clark & Addison) tonight at 8pm, play in our Illinois Lottery ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS tournament, and the champion walks out the door with $500.

Details here.

  • The Postal Service is debating the possibility of dropping a day of mail delivery to deal with budgetary losses.  If all of our jobs had one less day a week, that’d be a lot more time on our hands!

What would you with only a 4-day week?  How would spend the extra day (52 days over a year’s time)?

Let’s talk about it, today after 3pm.

2009 a month old, and you’re still hanging on too?

We only have 2 days remaining in January.  This is the first year I’ve ever really made New Years’ resolutions, and I can’t believe I’m still doing them.  It’s a good thing, right?

  • Get healthier by exercising at least 3 times a week (more, hopefully, as time goes on).
  • Drink 8 full glasses of water a day.
  • Eat more fruits & veggies.

I’m still doing all 3, and it’s crazy.  I do feel better, but I’ve never used the bathroom so much in my life.

Plus, waking up at 2am to visit that room … waking me out of a sound sleep … will it ever end?

I want to know what NY Resolutions YOU are holding on to, and proudly at that.

Let’s talk about it today, after 3pm.

Making your life easier, through 287-995

One of the greatest things about texting?  It requires very little work on your part.

Something new I thought might help your busy life — text updates / alerts about station events that you may’ve missed on the radio.

Every Thursday, I host The Road at 10pm.  Two hours of live music & conversation with your favorite stars.  Want to know who’s on the show this week, or the next few programs?

  • Text “THE ROAD” to 287-995, and you’ll never miss your favorite artist again.

Every Friday, I host the Friday Night Party Patrol at 9pm.  A different bar each week with Miller Lite prizes & specials, plus all-request country music!   Want to know when we’ll be in YOUR neighborhood?

  • Text “PARTY PATROL” to 287-995, and I’ll tell you exactly where to find us.

It’s all about making your life easier, and getting the most out of each day.

Make it a great one, and we’ll chat after 3pm.

Delusional, from Rod’s point of view

Watching Governor Blagojevich on Good Morning America & The View this morning was comedy gold.  After all, who HASN’T compared themselves to Nelson Mandela or Gandhi when going through a hardship?

I think more people may deem Rod delusional after his appearances today.

Have your friends ever called you delusional on a choice or opinion you made, or on something that you love to do that may be a BIT out of the ordinary?

Let’s chat about it, today after 3pm.

Wasting time at work

While at work, I think we can all use an extra 5-10 minutes daily, just to re-charge our brains.

Some may call it wasting time.  I call it, well, not working.   To help you meet your daily quota:

** Season 5 of Lost on ABC kicked off Wednesday, and my wife Jill’s Lost Blog 2009 is now online @ my page of US99.com.  You’ll also find the previous seasons’ blogs – everything we Lost addicts need for our weekly fix.

** All Access Week 84 is now posted at US99.com … it highlights all the interviews from last weekend’s Winterfest in St. Charles.  My TMZ conversation with Kellie Pickler, plus Jason Aldean and Jimmy Wayne with L&R.  Perfect for that mid-afternoon non-smoke break.

What’s the best way you waste a few minutes every day?  Your favorite indulgence?

Let’s talk about it, today after 3pm.

Getting burned, even when you follow the rules

My wife Jill got to work over 40 minutes late this morning, due to the folks at Metra.

The crossing gates were stuck in the down position.  She and a group of 20 others decided not to cross, even with no trains in either direction.

Once her train arrived, already 15 minutes late, the group waited for the Metra flagger to appear and help them across.

Instead, the train pulled away after a few minutes, leaving them stranded!

With the gates still in the down position, the next train arrived 20 minutes later.  This time, a Metra flagger exited at the back of the train to help them.

This episode furthers my opinion that the folks at Metra really don’t care about much.  Customer service, on-time performance, all the things their commercials tout.  They just don’t get it.

Have you been burned recently, after playing by the rules?

Let’s talk about it today, after 3pm.

A new toy, in the text number 287-995

I like new toys.  One of them arrived in the mail today … the first five volumes in the Bug Me Video collection.

Another new toy that “arrives” today at 3pm?

Our new US 99.5 text number.  287-995.

You can use it to find out the name of a song, to join the conversation, just about anything.

I can’t wait.

287-995.

Put it in your contacts now, and we’ll chat after 3pm.

Kellie Pickler, Jimmy Wayne & my celebrity TMZ life for a day

Here are a few shots from my broadcast on Friday afternoon, when Kellie Pickler stopped by.

Can you tell how close and crowded her fans were, in front of our table?  Crazy!

I’m curious if you’ve ever had a TMZ / paparazzi experience, good or bad.

Let’s chat about it, today after 3pm.

Why Twitter is more than just the “new tech craze”

I’m still learning the ropes of this stuff, but I like it.  Someone else compared it to a classroom where you never have to raise your hand.  If you’re open to it, you can learn more in a few hours on Twitter, than surfing the web all day searching for the same information.  News, traffic, weather, and often, all before it has hit mainstream channels.

Sign up today, and let’s keep in touch.  Any suggestions on making it better?  Fire away.

Until then, let’s tweet together HERE.
