You Hated It At The Time, But You Love It Now!

The headline describes my mantra at the gym most mornings (today I did 4.13 miles in 43 minutes, on a 3.0 incline, for a total of 713 calories) …
What about you … last thing you did that you despised at the time, but you couldn’t be happier now? Share with us here!
Admitting your friends are right is tough sometimes!
My buddy Mike was right about my workouts at the gym, much as I hate to admit it …
I skipped the stairs machine this morning and went right to the treadmill. Ran 3.67 miles, walked to a finish of 3.96 miles. More pain, less time, more gain.
What about you? Last thing you did that you really hated at the time, but it was SO good for you?
Say what you need to say, today
Jill & I attended the wake of a close friend this afternoon. He lost the battle with his 2nd bout of brain cancer over the weekend, and he was only 33.
He lived an amazing life, full of energy and happiness. He and his wife were the ones who convinced us to move out of the city into their neighborhood, and that bond remained. We shared playdates at the park with our kids, swapped babysitting, and took care of each other’s pets on vacation too.
Their youngest was born only months ago.
I turn 33 in two weeks, and it makes no sense he didn’t live any longer.
Tell your loved ones how you feel TODAY, as tomorrow is not promised.
J, we’re going to miss you, buddy.
A lot.
You might hate it, but you still do it
It comes up in everyone’s life now and then – something you really HATE doing, but you still do it.
For me, it happened this morning: keeping to my New Year’s resolution of working out at least 3 times a week.
Worked late in Wrigleyville last night, Roy was a bear this morning, and all I wanted to do was watch more of Season One of the best TV show ever made, The Wire.
BUT … I worked out, and I actually feel much better. How does it happen that way?
I’m curious what your #1 is … the thing you hate to do the most, but you still do it because you know you should.
Let’s chat about it, today after 3pm.
2009 a month old, and you’re still hanging on too?
We only have 2 days remaining in January. This is the first year I’ve ever really made New Years’ resolutions, and I can’t believe I’m still doing them. It’s a good thing, right?
- Get healthier by exercising at least 3 times a week (more, hopefully, as time goes on).
- Drink 8 full glasses of water a day.
- Eat more fruits & veggies.
I’m still doing all 3, and it’s crazy. I do feel better, but I’ve never used the bathroom so much in my life.
Plus, waking up at 2am to visit that room … waking me out of a sound sleep … will it ever end?
I want to know what NY Resolutions YOU are holding on to, and proudly at that.
Let’s talk about it today, after 3pm.
Harder than I thought
On the surface, drinking eight glasses of water a day seems easy. Right? Wrong.
I had success yesterday, but I’ve never peed so much in my life. Seriously! Plus, I had to consciously be thinking, “OK, another hour, I need another glass. Maybe if I break them into half-glasses, it’ll be easier?”
Regardless, I haven’t felt that good, as a whole, in a long time. I’m already on glass #3 today (or is it 4?).
Speaking of success, Roy had a great pediatrician’s visit this morning for his 15-month check-up. Amy & Delores there are big fans of the show, and usually give me a “happy visit” sticker too. I don’t ask for them, really. *wink*
By the way, do you remember the last time you lied to someone to spare their feelings? Your spouse? Your child?
I’ve got a fun story to share … let’s talk about it, today after 3pm.
Day 3, and still rolling
Today is Day 3 of my New Years’ resolutions, although I think of more importance, it’s the first year I’ve ever really done them.
But … day 3, and I’m still AOK. I did add one more to the list, though — drinking *8* eight-ounce glasses of water a day. Jill’s been on me for years to do it, but I never saw the point. I know, I know.
Strangely enough, I’ve had 4 glasses so far today (it’s about 12:30pm), and I actually *feel* better than I have in a long time.
Glass of water right out of bed, still my cup of DD coffee, and more water.
Have you already given up on any NY resolutions? Need a little encouragement?
Let’s talk about it, today after 3pm. On US*99.5!
Time for new things
I’m getting to the end of Roy’s morning nap, so I’m thinking I should be showering now, instead of blogging. I’m a gambler.
The beginning of a new year is the time when we evaluate what we’d like to change, and how long we think it’ll last.
This year, I’m resolve be healthier, whether it’s working out more (and by more, I mean at all), eating better, and just taking care of myself. I also want to have more fun.
I’m on the road already, as I actually did a workout this morning (one of my old ones, from a VHS tape, if that tells you anything).
On the fun factor, although I’m not back on the radio until Monday, I’m hosting my Friday Night Party Patrol tonight at a bar we’ve never been to before, Joe Daniel’s in Palos Heights. See the “new” theme coming through again?
Join me tonight after 9pm, and we’ll toast the new year together.
OK, I hear noises on the monitor. Time to scoot. See you tonight.
On the show this week:
On My Mind...
- @dealestate that home sale you just tweeted, was purchased with $1.2million CASH? Seriously?
- @TrishBiondo I had a dream you were live tweeting #SB46 last night. Then again, I had 1200 tweets pop in between 7-10:30p (!), so maybe not
- Most people drink beer on Super Bowl Sunday. Jill just wants a chocolate malt #thatisheraddiction #beerme #cheerstoyou
