Week 50: 52 Bags in 52 Weeks

Our quest to de-clutter our lives continues, one week (and one bag) at a time.   You can do the same!

Week 50:

In anticipation of adding a bunch of toys in about 2 weeks, we forced ourselves to part with more toys from the kids’ playroom (basement) to make room.

Jill filled a big Rubbermaid bin with 0-12month toys for her BFF, Kristen, who is having her 2nd baby in the spring … 8 years after her first one. :)

Next week:  only *2* more weeks to go, WOW !!

Week 8: 52 bags in 52 weeks

Every week that goes by, the clutter gets a bit smaller (through donations to Goodwill, family / baby hand-me-downs, women & children shelters or the trash)

Week 8: Time for our first pass at tackling the basement, i.e. the kids’ playroom!

We first layed everything out and then organized into plastic bins.  A bin of just balls, just cars & trucks, just stuffed animals, then the larger-than-life letter puzzle pieces, the expandable tunnel tents, and a miscellaneous bin too.

During the organization, we decided what stayed and what could go.   Our first purge yielded 1 bag of donatable toys, 1 bag of donatable stuffed animals, and 1 bag of trashed toys.

Peter Walsh from OWN has great advice for your kids’ toys (view the video HERE).   Essentially, bins help you and your kids set limits for the amount of toys.   For every new toy brought into your home, one toy needs to go out the door.

I’m sure we’ll hit the basement again later this year …

Next week, maybe the kitchen glassware / plates?

Getting the best out of everything

A lot of folks have today off for President’s Day, including my wife Jill.

After some much-needed and long-overdue housecleaning, we grilled jalapeno burgers for lunch (enjoying the sunshine even if it IS only 34 degrees).

How are you making the day count … what’s the best thing to do on your day off?

Let’s talk about it, today after 3pm.

A new toy, in the text number 287-995

I like new toys.  One of them arrived in the mail today … the first five volumes in the Bug Me Video collection.

Another new toy that “arrives” today at 3pm?

Our new US 99.5 text number.  287-995.

You can use it to find out the name of a song, to join the conversation, just about anything.

I can’t wait.

287-995.

Put it in your contacts now, and we’ll chat after 3pm.
