How to stay cool today?

With the heat index hovering at 99.5, I got curious about the best ways to stay cool (not including the obvious air conditioning remedy) …

Friends on Facebook said ice cream, a slip-n-slide, and my favorite answer so far?  Underwear in the freezer!

What about you – suggestions?

Rascal Flatts with Oprah, plus a little Nashville fun

What a cool surprise to hear from Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts yesterday – he called me from OPRAH backstage on Michigan Avenue.  His most diva demand?  What song did Oprah *personally* request of the guys?

Find out when they actually found out they were coming to Chicago (crazy!), plus much more … the entire conversation is HERE.

Also, a B I G thanks, again, to you … US 99.5 has been nominated for the CMA Major Market Station of the Year!  The awards will take place in Nashville in November, and we couldn’t do any of it without you!

Enjoy this pea soup weather today, and we’ll chat soon.

Beating the heat

Yesterday’s high was over 95 in the suburbs… with our A/C unit on the fritz, our house was 83 degrees.  OUCH.   Plus, the Beer N Bags event last night was at a bar with no A/C either.  HUH?!

Today, it’s even hotter, but we’re all good at the houseagain.

Suggestions on how to stay cool?  The best way to beat the heat?  I nominate ice-cold Miller Lite, and a sno-cone.  You?

Let’s chat about it, today after 3pm.

What a feeling

It happened last night.

One of our favorite things to do in spring & fall – we slept with the windows open!

However, Roy is still asleep.  It’s 7:50am (!) right now.  Clearly, it’s having an effect on him as well.

How do you know it’s spring at YOUR house?  What’s the one thing that’s a sure sign you’ve made the switch?

Let’s talk about it, today after 3pm.

Rascal Flatts on the show today AND tomorrow

Joe Don from Rascal Flatts checked in with Lisa & Ray yesterday.

After 6pm today, I’m expecting a call from Jay.  On tomorrow’s show, I’m still working on a call from Gary.

The guys are pumped about their Wrigley Field concert on Saturday, July 18th with Darius Rucker & Vince Gill.  Some guests have yet to be announced too!

Tickets are on sale Saturday at Noon through www.tickets.com or 1.800.THE.CUBS

Questions for Gary or Jay?  E-mail me, send a text (287-995) or call (312.591.US99) between 3-7pm, or Facebook me too.

Make it a great day, and we’ll chat soon.

Road trips can go either way

I think we’re heading to central IL tomorrow for a visit with my wife’s grandparents.  They recently moved from their farm to a retirement home, and I know they’d love to see Roy.

I’ve never been a big fan of the “road trip,” having done several in college and beyond.

Then again, with the right combination of weather, companions and a little luck, anything can be great.

Big road trips planned for the spring?  The last great trip you took?

Let’s talk about it, today after 3pm.

Getting the best out of everything

A lot of folks have today off for President’s Day, including my wife Jill.

After some much-needed and long-overdue housecleaning, we grilled jalapeno burgers for lunch (enjoying the sunshine even if it IS only 34 degrees).

How are you making the day count … what’s the best thing to do on your day off?

Let’s talk about it, today after 3pm.

The first green grass in over two months

With the warm temperatures lately, the leaves that I didn’t have time to rake in early December have re-appeared on the front lawn, along with some green grass.

Although green is a term I use loosely here, as it’s most brown with a lot of salt left over.

On the front parkway, I found a few fast-food paper cups and plastic bags.  In the alley by our garage, I found  a can of Busch beer (NOT mine), more paper, and even some styrofoam packing peanuts.

What a mess.

Did you discover any lost treasures from 2008, buried under the mountains of snow only to re-surface over the weekend?

Let’s talk about it, today after 3pm.

Why Twitter is more than just the “new tech craze”

I’m still learning the ropes of this stuff, but I like it.  Someone else compared it to a classroom where you never have to raise your hand.  If you’re open to it, you can learn more in a few hours on Twitter, than surfing the web all day searching for the same information.  News, traffic, weather, and often, all before it has hit mainstream channels.

Sign up today, and let’s keep in touch.  Any suggestions on making it better?  Fire away.

Until then, let’s tweet together HERE.

Kellie Pickler is hot for HIM?

What a great afternoon yesterday … a live audience of 120+ from Pheasant Run Mega Center in St. Charles, and Kellie Pickler stopped by too!

She told me about her big plans for 2009, whom she admires most, what movie star turns her ON like no other, and much more!

If you missed our conversation, you can listen to it at the Podcast page.
