Beating the heat

Posted by: Drew In: Coors Light Beer N Bags| Miller Lite| Weather

Yesterday’s high was over 95 in the suburbs… with our A/C unit on the fritz, our house was 83 degrees.  OUCH.   Plus, the Beer N Bags event last night was at a bar with no A/C either.  HUH?!

Today, it’s even hotter, but we’re all good at the houseagain.

Suggestions on how to stay cool?  The best way to beat the heat?  I nominate ice-cold Miller Lite, and a sno-cone.  You?

Let’s chat about it, today after 3pm.

Saying goodbye to an old friend

Posted by: Drew In: Corey

Jill & I had to put our beloved cat Corey to sleep on Saturday morning … he’d been ill for many months, and we’d made things as comfortable as possible for him.

Medicine for this ache, helping him with another ailment, it became a regular routine.

When we knew it was time, we chose to look and reflect at the great life he’d lived (over 17 years), all the fun times we had, the fact that he will forever be our son’s first friend in the world … rather than “the end.”   Thank god for videos!

That said, we were ready, we were prepared … but I completely lost it at the vet.  It still stinks writing this, 3 days later.

My point?  Cherish the ones you have and love today.

** Summer is officially here, because our Coors Light BEER n BAGS tournament is underway.  Every Tuesday & Wednesday through August, make plans to join me across Chicagoland for your chance at an all-inclusive trip for 2 to the CMAs in November!

We’re in Chicago Ridge tonight, Hillside next Tuesday,  and Des Plaines next Wednesday … register between 8-9pm, play starts at 9pm with 16 randomly-selected teams!   Full details HERE.

** The other big event is this Saturday, when Kenny Chesney & friends invade Soldier Field ALL DAY LONG!

Our US*99.5 Oasis kicks off at Noon, Luke Bryan is on stage at 3pm, and then the party rolls on inside the stadium.  Tickets are still available, full details HERE.

** I noticed that Friday is the cut-off, no more analog TV.  Do you understand it all?  Me neither, but it got me thinking … do you think there’s anyone still watching a B&W tv, embracing the old-school flavor?

Let’s talk about it this afternoon, after 3pm!

Crowded house

Posted by: Drew In: Date Night| Roy

All week, both my aunt & uncle from the UK and my mom are staying with us.  That’s a lot of meal and house coordination!

Good thing is that Roy has a lot more people to entertain him …

And Jill & I have a date night scheduled for tomorrow night too, helps to have the built-in babysitters.

What was your last great date night, and how did you make the most of it?

Let’s chat about it, today after 3pm.

It’s been a pretty busy week with the boy … new words, new adventures (Roy can now get out of the crib himself), and my aunt & uncle are still here from Scotland.

With the long holiday weekend about to start, let’s catch up:

* FRONT ROW George Strait tickets up for grabs today on the DW Drive @ 5 … the show is tomorrow night with Blake Shelton & Julianne Hough!

* Friday Night Party Patrol tonight in Chicago, Six Penny Pub (on Montrose) - win George Strait Miller Lite Party Deck passes!

* Tomorrow morning, great deals & prizes @ Verizon Wireless in Bloomingdale (336 W Army Trail Rd) starting at noon!

* Get ready for another summer of Coors Light Beer N Bags … we kick it off next month, more details soon!

Make it a great weekend, be safe, and we’ll chat after 3pm today…

BIG WEEK as we get ready for the Keith Urban show on Friday @ the Allstate Arena.  Every afternoon, I’ve got two pairs of tickets up for grabs, counting down to the FRONT ROW.

8th & 7th ROWS after 3pm today.

Also on Friday, make plans to join Marti Jones & me as we broadcast LIVE 3 - 7pm from the aloft Chicago O’Hare in Rosemont (9700 Balmoral Ave, just west of River Rd).   It’ s our free pre-party, with food from Morton’s Steakhouse, free shuttles to / from the concert, and much more!

Sitting in my home office now, as I finish the game plan for the week, I’ve just noticed that Roy, again, has stolen the broom from our closet and is busy sweeping the 1st floor.

The boy is only 19-months-old, and already has an affinity to housework.  I love it.

Same with your kids?  Let’s chat about it this afternoon.

How can he NOT be hungry?

Posted by: Drew In: Life| Roy

We’ve been having meal struggles in the last few days … Roy is just not hungry.

He’s not sick, he’s not unhappy, just not that hungry.  Loving his milk, his Cheerios, his crackers, but the meat & potatoes part of his diet, not so much.

Do you remember what got your kids’ to kickstart their eating habits again?

With my son Roy past the 19-month mark now, we’re seeing new changes every day.

New words added to his vocabulary.  New signs to go with those words, from his Baby Signing Time! videos.

The one thing I wasn’t prepared for - an earlier wake-up alarm.  Most days, he’s having full conversations with himself by 6:15am.  Admittedly, after 19 months of sleeping until 7:30am, sometimes 8am … I’m having trouble adjusting.

I probably should’ve seen it coming.

I’m curious about your major life changes recently … you either go with the flow, or try to change the pace.

Let’s chat about it, today after 3pm.

Rodney Atkins was our last featured artist in the “8 Shows @ Joe’s” concert series … I had a chance to chat with him before the show, and the All Access video is now posted HERE.

* Who does he like to introduce himself as?

* Whose bus did he used to envy, only to have it become his own?

* What type of crazy window border would you only find on a superstar’s bus, and ONLY from Rodney Atkins?

The answers to these questions, plus highlights from the concert, when you check out All Access Week 97 now, online @ US99.com!

What a difference the sun makes … even Roy was ready to face the world again, albeit an hour earlier than usual.  I don’t think I’ll ever be fond of the 6:30am screaming wake-up call.

If you’re a Cubs fan and LOVE Emerson Drive, tomorrow is your special day.  They’re doing a FREE show at The Cubby Bear Chicago, starting at 8pm.  They’re also singing the national anthem before the Cubs - Reds game too, don’t miss it!

If I haven’t seen you at the Friday Night Party Patrol recently, why not?  Join me in Shorewood this Friday @ 9pm - we’re headed to Bedrocks, on Jefferson St. just west of 59.  Lots of Miller Lite prizes & specials, plus you can win a copy of Jason Michael Carroll’s new CD before it’s even on sale!   More details & directions HERE.

Make it a great day, and we’ll chat after 3pm.
